JGC and Changi sign for new Airport
On January 30, the consortium of JGC, a Japanese engineering company, and Singapore's Changi International Airport signed a contract with the Myanmar government for Hanthawaddy Airport planned on the outskirts of Yangon. The contract was for the construction and management of the airport. The airport is 80 km northeast of Yangon and will be built to handle 12m passengers per year. According to local newspapers, the investment required is USD 1.5 billion, and a portion of the investment is being evaluated for Japanese ODA (Official Development Assistance).
