"Panglong Conference" held with the aim for national peace UN Secretary -General Ban-Ki Moon attend
On August 1, Japanese major distributor Aeon announced that Aeon Orange, a joint venture set up with CreDuring the four days from August 31 to September 3, State Counsellor and Union Minister of Foreign Affairs, Aung San Suu Kyi, called the military and ethnic minority armed groups together to discuss the path to peace at the "Union Peace Conference (21st Century Panglong Conference)" held in the capital, Naypyidaw. Since Myanmar's independence in 1948, the country has been continuously at war internally, and the new government has made achieving peace one of its top priorities.
The UN Secretary- General Ban-Ki Moon attended the conference, and of the approximate 20 ethnic armed groups, 17 participated. The military is arguing against the demand from various ethnic armed groups for increased self-government, and the conference came to a close with no concrete resolution. Next conference is expected to take place in 6 months time.
