On August 16, Ayeyarwady (AYA) Bank in partnership with Japan's JCB Card and Myanmar Payment Union (MPU), the national payment network, has announced the issuance of Myanmar's first credit card for domestic and international use.
JCB entered into Myanmar in 2013 and has been developing a partnership with MPU. In June this year, JCB established a Yangon branch in Myanmar. JCB issues global cards with around 31 million merchants worldwide, which will help accelerate the globalization of Myanmar's financial network. The cards issued are three types of credit cards – platinum, gold, silver – and debit card.
